Friday 5: Craft & Barrel

I recently visited Craft & Barrel, which is a small bar tucked away off of Wade Hampton Boulevard and is definitely a secret that is waiting to be let out of the bag. A fun spot for neighborhood locals, Craft & Barrel specializes in whiskey cocktails while providing a diverse food menu with some house-made traditional bar food, as well as a variety of sandwiches and a few large plate options.

Here is a list of five things to check out at Craft & Barrel.

Wings, yes wings. Probably one of the most popular menu items at bars around the country, Craft and Barrel a has some pretty tasty ones. The brown sugar bourbon BBQ wings are definitely a crowd pleaser with the house-made barbecue.

The pesto and heirloom tomato flatbread is everything! With a house-made pesto sauce, fresh tomatoes, basil and mozzarella, this flatbread is one for the books.

I’m not sure I know too many people that can turn down macaroni and cheese and Craft and Barrel makes one for everyone. Picture this- jumbo shells with a creamy white cheddar cheese, chopped bacon, diced tomatoes and scallions. To top it all off, you can add shrimp or chicken to it.

While I’m sure you came up with a beautiful mental image of this delicious macaroni and cheese. I’ve provided you with an image of the real thing.

Southern classics all over the menu. Fried green tomatoes, bacon jalapeno deviled eggs, pimento cheese, and fried chicken.

WHISKEY!!! I’ll admit, I’m not a big whiskey drinker, but with my whiskey-bourbon loving other half it has become a small part of my life. Craft and Barrel has quite cocktail menu with whiskey based cocktails. There is an entire section of the cocktail menu dedicated to cocktails “From the barrel”, as well a bourbon based mule inspired cocktail, the Kentucky Mule- Jim Beam, lime, and ginger beer.

While Craft and Barrel is definitely a bar atmosphere, gastropub is a better term for it, meaning it isn’t just focused on creating delicious drink and a fun time, but food is important to them. Be sure to check out their Facebook page to find out when to check out live music, or visit on Thursdays for a fun night of Karaoke.
