Friday 5: Top 5 Rooftops in Greenville, SC

It’s no secret eating and drinking on rooftops has become a thing here in the Upstate. With 2 new rooftops opening within the last year and at least 2 more slated to open by the end of the year, I thought I would do a top 5 of my current favorite rooftops to visit since I did a top 5 of my favorite patios.

Up on the Roof

I’m pretty sure this is Greenville’s favorite rooftop, just due to the amount of Instafamousness (if that’s a word- meaning Instagram popularity). Just in case you haven’t heard of Up on the Roof it is located on top of the new Embassy Suites in Downtown Greenville at Riverplace and offers a variety of food options, a unique drink menu and some of the best views of the city.

Southern Fellow Drink Recommendation: The Roof-tini (hangar one kaffir lime, Skyy vodka, blueberry-blackberry simple syrup, rosemary simple syrup, cranberry juice and tripple sec)

Up on the Roof Review

Blue Ridge Brewing Co.

While Downtown Greenville sure does miss this place, I am really glad the opened the Greer location with the rooftop bar. There’s nothing like sitting on a rooftop with a beverage a little food and some conversation away from the hustle and bustle of busy Greenville.

Southern Fellow Recommendation: Cranberry Margarita (a traditional-style margarita with cranberry juice and citrus liquor)

Pro-tip: Happy hour all day on Mondays and Tuesdays and there’s a pretty cool bar bites menu for $5 and new Downtown location in the works!

Ink N Ivy

This trendy rooftop offers a great selection of food and beverages, while providing great views of different parts of the city.

Southern Fellow Recommendation: Poison Ivy (Ketel One Citreon, pink lemonade, lemon wedges, basil, and house-made ginger simple syrup)

Whistle Stop at the American Cafe

This Travelers Rest (aka TR) treasure is located right on Main Street and provides that small town feel while sitting on their rooftop oasis.

Southern Fellow Recommendation: Vickie’s Grand Margarita (tequila, Grand Marniner, and fresh squeezed lime juice served on the rocks with a salted lime) and Fried Green Tomatoes

Sip was Downtown Greenville’s first rooftop bar and sits in the city’s center offering outdoor couches, live music on the weekends and, of course, delicious sips.

Southern Fellow Recommendation: Vodka infusion (Smirnoff vodka infused with strawberries and kiwi)  tip: add Sprite, has a bit of a bite

Some places to be on the lookout for are Topside Pool Club, a members only rooftop pool located at Falls Park Place, and Miyako’s new location in Spartanburg is supposed to have a rooftop patio as well.
